If you suffer from hypertension or high blood pressure then you will need to see about lowering high blood pressure. A normal blood pressure is considered to be at lower than 120/80 and anything above–0/90 is considered to be high and your heart is putting too much pressure on your arteries.

The top number in your blood pressure is associated with the pressure of the blood inside of your arteries when your heart is beating or contracting and is called systolic pressure. The pressure of the blood in your arteries during the period your heart rests in between beats is called the diastolic pressure.

High blood pressure is an issue because it can lead to heart disease, kidney disease, hardening of the arteries, stroke, brain damage and eye damage. Organ damage is considered the end result of high blood pressure as you can go for years with high blood pressure before damaging your organs.

If you are diagnosed with high blood pressure you need to begin treatment to lower your blood pressure back to normal ranges. There are some lifestyle changes you can make that help in lowering high blood pressure which include following a healthy diet. What you eat will affect your body and a diet that is high in fresh vegetables and fruits and low in fat is much better for a healthy body. Reducing the salt and sodium content in your diet is important as too much salt can exacerbate high blood pressure.

Losing weight can help you lower your blood pressure as being overweight does increase your blood pressure. Smoking and excessively drinking alcohol are also factors that will increase your blood pressure. If you must drink alcohol, do so in moderation. If you can stop smoking, you will be way ahead of the game as well.

There are prescription medications that can be used to reduce your high blood pressure. Diuretics work by getting rid of excess salt in your body and flushing out additional water. They work directly on your kidneys rather then on your heart or arteries. Beta blockers will work on your heart to slow down its beating, therefore reducing the pressure in the arteries. Angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitor, also called ACE, works by regulating a hormone that causes the arteries to become narrow. By stopping this action your blood pressure will be reduced as there is more room in the arteries.

Calcium channel blockers stop calcium from entering muscle cells in the heart which causes the heart and blood vessels to relax. Alpha blockers reduce nerve control of the blood vessels so blood can easily flow through the vessels. Alpha-beta-blockers work just like alpha blockers but they also slow down your heart so less blood is pumped through the blood vessels.

Car accident settlements could be changed by many things. Your health could come into the calculations. Specifically if you have something that could be considered to affect your driving.
